Think Machine showing a document beside a graph of the ideas in it

Think Machine is a mind-mapping and knowledge-graph app. You write ideas as plain text with arrows, such as Socrates → Plato → Aristotle, and it draws them as a map in 2D or 3D that you can fly through, filter and expand.

The first version, in March 2024, was a 3D hypergraph mind mapper built on Thinkable Type. In August 2024 a new version added the HyperEditor, where notes and maps are one document. InstaCartography turns notes, documents and websites into maps; Wayfinder AI answers questions with your whole graph in view; and Interwingle sets how tightly the ideas connect. It runs on the web and as a Mac and Windows app.

It borrows from the oldest ideas in computing: Vannevar Bush’s Memex and its trails, Ted Nelson’s hypertext, and Stephen Wolfram’s hypergraphs, combined with today’s language models. I wrote about that lineage in From Memex to Think Machine.
